Nick Dubin knows what it is like to be bullied. As a person with Asperger Syndrome, he was taunted throughout his childhood, particularly in Middle School. Little did his persecutors know that he would turn the experience into a successful career. The majority of children with Asperger Syndrome suffer from being bullied because they are socially awkward. Dubin shares what he has learned about bullying in his new book, ASPERGER SYNDROME AND BULLYING: STRATEGIES AND SOLUTIONS by Nick Dubin (June 2007, Jessica Kingsley Publishers; Paperback Original, $18.95; ISBN: 978-1-84310-846-7; 160 pages).
After years of academic research on the subject, Nick is ready to take on bullies everywhere. In ASPERGER SYNDROME AND BULLYING, Nick tells us why individuals with Asperger Syndrome are easy targets. He explains why bullying is such a serious problem, with consequences that can include poor self-esteem in adulthood, low grades in school, depression and even suicide. He gives concrete solutions on how to stop bullying that are based on research and his own personal insight. The solutions are useful for any child who is the victim of bullying, not just children with Asperger Syndrome.
Nick Dubin was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome in 2004. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Oakland University, a Master’s Degree in Learning Disabilities from the University of Detroit Mercy, and a Specialist Degree in Psychology from the Michigan School of Professional Psychology, where he is now pursuing a doctoral degree in Psychology.
